This year marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Celia Cruz, the legendary Queen of Salsa. To celebrate her unparalleled legacy, the Miami Dade College Museum of Art and Design is hosting a vibrant exhibit, “Celia Cruz: Work,” honoring her iconic career and cultural impact.
Celia Cruz wasn’t just a performer; she was a force of nature. Known for her signature catchphrase, “Azúcar!” she brought the fiery essence of Cuban and Latin American culture to audiences worldwide. Her powerful presence on stage, paired with her dedication to her craft, made her a global icon.
The exhibit, running from January 15 to February 15, 2025, showcases personal items from Cruz’s estate, including her dazzling dresses, iconic wigs, and unforgettable shoes. “We really wanted to highlight the dedication that Celia put into every show and chapter of her incredible career,” said Maria Chicuen of MDC.
The timing of the exhibit is significant, coinciding with the 100th anniversaries of both Celia Cruz and the city of Hialeah, often called the most Cuban city in the U.S.
For fans of Cruz and Cuban culture, this exhibit is a must-see. Instead of Googling her story, step into the gallery and experience the magic that made Celia Cruz a cultural ambassador and a musical legend.
